Photographer Mario de Lopez’s repertoire encompasses commercial and fine art photography,

accompanied by documentary video installation work. He is adept at shooting portraiture,

fashion, interiors, still-life and travel assignments. Early in his career Mario won the APA top

award for Best Emerging Talent; since then his work has been widely published in the U.S.,

Europe and Asia. Developing a unique personal style, Mario has consistently created evocative

images that demonstrate his love and commitment to the photographic medium. His images

always convey a deep interconnection between people, their environments and the fleeing


Celebrated for his soulful artistic portraiture style early on, Mario has since seemingly branched

out into shooting product and 20th Century modern design and architecture for international

clients such as TOTO, Christie’s, LAMA, the Oscar Academy Awards, the Los Angeles Music

Center, the Orange County Museum of Art “Birth of the Cool,” and a comprehensive modernist

fashion collection. What sets his work apart is the uncanny ability to draw the viewer into the

form, shape and design of the object in front of his lens, as welll as his meticulous attention to


The Michael Boyd Collection for Christie’s, a catalogue shot entirely by Mario, reached sold-out

designation, and was on view at the Tate Museum in London. A recent episode of Ovation TV’s

“Forbe’s Sold!” profiled Mario photographing a prized Andy Warhol painting for a pedigree auction

house. Applying his love of black and white photography in combination with a reportage approach,

Mario achieved the cinematic expression that Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf was seeking for the

“Moments that Matter” advertising campaign, which dotted the billboard landscape and 400 over

store interiors.

Mario has exhibited several fine art series in his career; among them many nude studies and a

twelve-year boxing series that focuses on the struggle of the amateur boxers living and training

in Tijuana, Mexico. Mario’s boxing portraits have been selected yearly as part of Los Angele’s

Latino Heritage Month celebration and calendar, delivered to over 35,000 corporations. In addition,

Graphis Annual publications have selected images from both the nude and fashion series to be

included in their prestigious annual hardcover books.

A graduate of Art Center College of Design, Mario brings a higher level of professionalism, artistic

commitment and respect to his craft on all projects. He’s always very excited collaborating with

multiple talents and clients to bring a project to life. And whenever possible, he manages to

make time to teach photography to diverse communities of young photographers and artists in

the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
